An extreme triathlon is a long-distance race involving swimming, cycling, and running. Unlike traditional triathlons, these events take place in challenging terrains, often in remote locations with unpredictable weather, making them more difficult.
The intensity of extreme triathlons demands physical and mental endurance, often in remote areas with minimal official race support. Athletes rely on supporters to provide food, gear, and emotional encouragement, especially in harsh or isolated conditions.
A supporter assists an athlete throughout the race, providing food, hydration, equipment changes, and motivation. They often accompany athletes during key segments, ensuring safety and boosting morale. Check out the general guide on The Global Extreme Triathlon website for more details.
Yes, anyone can be a supporter, there are loads of different support roles from full solo support to driving and crewing. It’s helpful to have some understanding of extreme triathlon and endurance sports. Supporters should also be prepared for long hours, extreme weather, and a dynamic role. You should also have a basic level of fitness and if you plan to support during the running section, you should also ensure you can meet the demands of the event ie, climb up and over a mountain!
Athletes benefit from experienced supporters who understand the unique challenges of extreme triathlons. A network helps match athletes with skilled supporters, improving safety and performance.
No, you cannot charge for your services through The Supporters Club platform. The website is based on creating a community where support is offered voluntarily, and the focus is on building connections and helping athletes without financial incentives. You can however discuss expenses with your athlete such as travel, accommodation and food.
If you’re interested in supporting athletes, it’s expected that your role is out of passion for the sport and to contribute to the community, rather than as a paid service.Â
You can join the community here at The Supporters Club and over at The Global Extreme Facebook group where you’ll be connected with athletes looking for assistance and find out more about these amazing races. The community welcomes all levels of experience!
No, we are not affiliated with any of the races listed on our site. Our mission is to simply bring athletes and supporters together who share a mutual love and respect for the extreme triathlon scene.
